American Explorers

A Journey Towards Leadership

American Explorers are extraordinary young men and women who have been recognized as emerging leaders in their schools and communities. Through the support of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, they embark upon a four-year journey to develop their leadership capacity, beginning with a challenging 22-day Outward Bound course in the mountains of North Carolina. Throughout the program students are exposed to meaningful opportunities meant to be shared with their circles of influence (self, home, school, community).

American Explorers has changed me. Through this experience, I feel like I can help make my community a place where all feel safe to walk around at night, and parents are happy to see kids pursue their dreams.

American Explorers has me more open-minded to care for others. The people around me feel like family.  It has shown me that it is o.k. to be different.

I have fun doing different activities, but the best part of this program is that I’m learning about myself and how to sharpen my leadership skills.

Six months ago I would never have imagined myself waking up to this view everyday or pushing myself as hard as I have to get here.

I know that I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and I know these people will support me whenever I need it.

I’ve learned more than I ever thought I could, laughed more than I ever thought I would, and grew to love my new friends and co-future leaders.
